About Us

Hella Dope Girls is an Arts and Culture Collective based in Southern California. We are a group of creative individuals who are passionate about creating meaningful work that conveys our passion for social justice issues amongst other subjugations. This collective is a safe space. We invite people from all walks of life to have a platform where they are encouraged to share their art and what they are most passionate about. Although “girls” is included in what we call ourselves, we are not exclusive to female/female identifying contributors.

Meet our contributors!

Co-Founder of Hella Dope Girls – Isel Cuapio grew up in Koreatown, Los Angeles. She graduated from UC Riverside, where she studied Political Science and English. Isel is a multimedia journalist, currently writing, editing, and producing content for FNX – First Nations Experience Television Network. She hopes to inspire other womxn of color to be in spaces of leadership and advocate for marginalized voices. With a passion for social justice, she uses her work to bring visibility and awareness about communities who are erased or left out of mainstream media. When she is not fulfilling her regular day to day duties, she enjoys spending time with her dog Keko.

Co-Founder of Hella Dope Girls – Emmeline Fernandez is a University of California, Riverside graduate with a degree in Creative Writing. Her focus is on nonfiction and poetry. Her goal is to establish a nonprofit organization for underprivileged and at-risk teens. She is currently working on a chapbook circling around the themes of immigration, relationships, activism, and workplace environments. She is an enthusiast for all betterment in society and looks forward to perpetuating the need for more womxn in the arts. When she isn’t sipping an almond milk latte, she is sure to be at home with her fur baby, Chunky the pug.

Co-Founder of Hella Dope Girls – Alma Carrillo recently graduated from Cal State Northridge, majoring in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in teaching. She hopes to work in education or a non-profit serving students. She enjoys writing poetry and short stories. During her spare time, she enjoys plant shopping and going to thrift stores. You can probably find her at her local coffee shop in LA sipping on an iced latte and reading a good book. She likes to think of herself as an old soul, with a deep appreciation for the simple things in life.
